I’ve never talked to anyone and I’m used to handling things on my own. Aren't people who go to therapy seen as weak?
Acknowledging that you can’t quite figure things out right now is actually a sign of strength because people who ask for help know when they need it and have the courage to reach out. Everyone needs help now and then. In our work together, I’ll help you explore and identify your strengths and how to implement them to reduce the influence of the problems you are facing.
What’s the difference between talking to you or my best friend or family?
A mental health professional can help you approach your situation in a new way– teach you new skills, gain different perspectives, listen to you without judgment or expectations, and help you listen to yourself.
Furthermore, counseling is completely confidential. You won’t have to worry about others “knowing my business.” Lastly, if your situation provokes a great deal of negative emotion, and you’ve been confiding in a friend or family member, there is the risk that once you are feeling better you could start avoiding that person so you aren’t reminded of this difficult time in your life.
Why shouldn’t I just take medication?
Medication can be effective but it alone cannot solve all issues. Sometimes medication is needed in conjunction with counseling. Our work together is designed to explore and unpack the problems you are experiencing and expand on your strengths that can help you accomplish your personal goals.
How does it work? What do I have to do in sessions?
Because each person has different issues and goals for counseling, it will be different depending on the individual. I tailor my therapeutic approach to your specific needs because your symptoms may look like other people's symptoms, but your needs are unique and so are you, and that is how we will approach our work together, with you in mind.
How long will therapy take?
Everyone’s circumstances are unique to them and the length of time counseling can take to allow you to accomplish your goals depends on your desire for personal development, your commitment, and the factors that are driving you to seek counseling in the first place.
I want to get the most out of therapy. What can I do to help?
I am so glad you are dedicated to getting the most out of your sessions. Your active participation and dedication will be crucial to your success and will be a very important part of positive outcomes. The tools and strategies that you learn are applied during your time in between your therapy sessions and we revisit, reassess and figure out what works and what doesn't for you. The best way to get the most out of therapy, therefore, is to be open and get ready to dive in with me.
My rate is $200 for 55-minute individual sessions and $250 for extended 75-minute individual, couple or family sessions. Depending on your current health insurance benefits plan, it is possible for my services to be covered in full or in part. Insurance and what to ask your insurance provider
I am an out of network provider and do not take any insurance, however, depending on your current health insurance benefits plan, it is possible for my services to be covered in full or in part. Please contact your provider to verify how your plan compensates you for psychotherapy services. I recommend asking the following five questions to your insurance provider to help determine your out of network benefits:
- Does my health insurance plan include mental health benefits?
- Do I have out of network coverage?
- Does my plan limit how many outpatient mental health or psychotherapy sessions per calendar year that are covered in my plan? If so, what is the limit?
- Do I need a pre-approval/ pre-authorization or referral from my primary care physician in order for services to be covered?
- What amount of the psychotherapy is reimbursed or covered?
I offer a number of payment options that include cash, check, HSA, FSA, debit and major credit cards.
Your time is very valuable to me and I have the utmost respect for ensuring that I set our time aside with no other distractions or overlapping client bookings.
- If you are unable to attend a scheduled session, please make sure you cancel at least 48 hours beforehand by text or email.
- Failure to provide a 48-hour notice from the time of your scheduled appointment will result in a cancellation fee.
- No-shows will be charged a full-rate session fee.
